Motivation
What motivates you?
Did you know that according to Rod K. Dishman, Ph.D., director of the Behavioural
Fitness Laboratory at the University of Georgia, about 50% of people who begin
an exercise program drop out within 6 months?
Find Your Motivation
The good news is that you don’t have to be a part of the 50% who
drop out. It’s a simple fact of human psychology
that if we want something badly enough we’ll do whatever it is we need to do to
get it. The trick is to find your
motivation.
Here are some possible motivators that might work for you:
Do it to relieve stress
Studies have shown
that exercise relieves stress, anxiety and depression. We can all use a little stress release and
exercise is one of the healthiest ways to do this.
Do it to increase your confidence
Let’s face it, when you look good you feel good. Exercise will improve your physique making
you feel more confident and energetic.
Do it to ensure your strength and mobility as you age
We are all aging but not everyone is aging well. When you think about your twilight years do you
want to be that person who hurts every time you move and basically be spending
the majority of your time on the couch or in bed? Or do you want to be that person who’s
enjoying life to its fullest in a body that moves well and feels great? Put the
work in now so you don’t suffer later.
Do it for your health
This is beneficial to both you and your loved ones. If you don’t take care of your health now you
risk dying younger and leaving your loved ones.
You also risk losing your independence as you age due to the higher risk
of stroke and/or heart attack.
